It’s taken just under three years from the first serious discussions about the formation of a Southern Boston Terrier Club to bring us to this historic day for the Club!
We set the ring with a perimeter using our black posts and chain, these were then dressed up with some gold ribbons which made it all look very smart.Fiona set up the club stall, and I must say the items for sale looked great. Kim Mason set up a table just outside the kitchen, with cake, free biscuits, and pots of tea and coffee freely available. And bacon or sausage rolls being served for breakfast! The show ring table was dressed with the smaller tasseled banner bearing the club logo. And the judges/stewards table displayed the wonderful rosettes supplied by Chelsey Harrison, it all looked fantastic!
Exhibitors were let into the hall at 9.30am, but because of the M25 closure it was decided the the start of judging was delayed by 20 minutes, so judging commenced at 10.20am. It is a Club rule that committee can enter their dogs, but cannot handle their dogs in the show ring on the day, this meant that we saw some new faces taking up some handling duties of showing dogs in the ring! Our Limit Show judge was breed specialist, Paula Hamilton (Takaira) coming over from Northern Ireland, Paula was very professional and efficient in her judging, giving every exhibit an equal amount of time and attention.
At 11am along with the rest of the nation we held a two minutes silence to honour those lost in conflict fighting for our civil freedoms. Lunch took place after the Limit show judging and Kim Mason provided the two judges and our President, Mrs. Maureen Hounslow and Vice president, Mrs. Val Kemeny, with a three course meal, which looked fantastic! Not only did he do that he also kept the rest of us supplied with hot soup, sandwiches and cake! After lunch we started with Mr. Peter Young (Lotsmoor) judging our Junior Handling class, followed by the Stacey Mewse Memorial Classes. Again Peter gave each exhibit equal time and attention and carried out his judging in a professional manner – Peter is a very experienced, well respected judge, who judges many breeds at Championship Show level, and has himself owned Boston’s. Our ring stewards Karen Sandells and Chris Mewse did a great job keeping the ring flowing. Both judges were presented with a Club badge and Club calendar as their gifts. Class winners were given treats kindly donated and supplied by Dom Hogan of Opies, and our main winners received cash prizes kindly donated by Mrs. Sue Worrell.
Dawn Atherton-Kemp was busy taking photos all day. It was a lovely friendly atmosphere in the hall, and all I’ve seen on social media are positive congratulations from all those that attended. I’d like to finish by saying a huge thank you to all committee members for their hard work both on the day, and leading up to the show, great team work, thank you everyone.
A very special thank you to Kim Mason for his outstanding organisation of the kitchen and the superb meals for judges, also a big thank you to all those that helped set up at the start and take down at the end of the day. And of course a final thank you to everyone that entered and attended on the day, you made this historic day for the club one to remember!
